Review: Gatorade Tiger

Gatorade Tiger (3 of 3)

Gatorade Tiger

Background

Gatorade recently has introduced a new line of Tiger Woods endorsed sports drinks, Gatorade Tiger. The new formula is nearly identical to the original Gatorade, except for 25% bump in electrolytes. The new Gatorade Tiger is available in three flavors: Red Drive (Cherry/Citrus), Cool Fusion (Lemon/Lime) and my personal favorite: Quiet Storm (Grape). This ‘Tiger Juice’ is available in two sizes, 16oz (100 calories per bottle) or 32oz.

Thoughts

The three flavors available, taste very similar to the traditional Gatorade counterparts. The only real difference I noticed, taste wise, was that it was a little more ’salty’. This must be the additional electrolytes coming through. If you do not drink Gatorade regularly, you probably would not even notice the difference in taste. Given the amount I sweat during a round on a hot summer day, the added electrolytes would probably be beneficial to me. If you ride a cart…I’d suggest sticking to water or Gatorade G2, you probably do not need another 100 calories.

Conclusion

I cannot really say if sports drinks like this really make a huge difference for the average weekend golfer. Personally, I’ll bring one along on really hot days, for two reasons: 1) I think it may replenish something my body may have lost, 2) I want something sweet to drink. If you are one who must have a couple bottles of these during a round, you may want to look at the Gatorade G2 product which comes in at half the calories of Gatorade Tiger or normal Gatorade.

I will have to report back later in the summer, when I have played a round in one of the 95 degree, 100% humidity days we get here in the North East. In the meantime, pickup a bottle at your local convenience store and give it a try. Though, I suggest doing something somewhat strenuous first…I always find Gatorade tastes much better when you are very thirsty!

  1. I also recently tried this product and agree with your assessment. I am actually a fan of the Gatorade AM, pretty tasty.
