Top 10 Lustworthy Golf Toys This Spring

Ok, so Spring is well into gear. The April showers are behind us (we hope) and the sun is beginning to bake our faces once again. You probably have played a round or two already and are loving the sweet smell of freshly cut spring grass. You’re probably also thinking…hmm…what new golf toys can I pickup this season? Ok, well perhaps you’re not a golf club ho, but if you are…this list is for you!

Here’s my Top 10 Lustworthy Golf Toy list for the glorious Spring of 2007!

Nike Sumo2 Driver #10 - Nike Sumo2
Banned by the USGA (ok, just kidding), maligning users with tinnitis, and invoking horrific stares are just a few of the interesting traits of this radical new driver offering by Nike. I am not sure how long the square driver revolution will be with us…but enjoy the ride while it lasts.
Callaway X-20 Irons #9 - Callaway X-20 Irons
These are some beautiful irons. While I do love the look and feel of my Mizuno MP-33s, just a casual glance at the X-20s has me caught in a fit of golf equipment lust. Though, I did hit them not long ago, and wasn’t extremely impressed with the feel…but that’s after having played Mizunos for the last year.
Tour Edge Exotic CB2 Fairway Wood #8 - Tour Edge Exotics CB2 Fairway Woods
At $350, this certainly isn’t the least expensive Fairway Wood offering. Nonetheless, claims of an added 20 yards over conventional fairway woods are quite compelling. The fact that it is larger than drivers of a few years ago is a little troubling. That certainly won’t stop me from trying to hit it on the range!
Adams Idea Pro Hybrid #7 - Adams Idea Pro Hybrids
If the a2ts hybrid were on the market, this may be #1, but alas, I do not have the cashflow necessary to spend a fortune on rare ‘tour’ issue equipment. In any event, these ‘retail’ hybrids are both gorgeous and great performers, or so I’m told. Hopefully I can get my hands on one to put it through a range session. Adams Golf has certainly been moving up the charts.
Callaway FT-i Driver #6 - Callaway FT-i
Ok, so for some reason this driver does not bother me visually as much as the Sumo2. Perhaps it’s the candy cane paint job? Perhaps it’s the more muted sound. But pickup this driver at your local pro shop and you’ll want to run right out and hit a few balls with it. I cannot speak to the performance of this club as I have not dared to actually go through with hitting it…do I really want this thing dancing through my dreams? FT-i…someday I’ll hit you…for now, you hold spot #6 on the list.
TaylorMade SuperQuad Driver #5 - TaylorMade SuperQuad
The SuperQuad makes it all the way up to #5 on my list. The all black look, the MWT and apparently explosive face all factor into this decision. The only reason this driver isn’t higher is that I already play the r7 425, and I can’t really justify a move up to this driver. I’ve heard nothing but good things about it though!
TaylorMade Burner Driver #4 - TaylorMade Burner
What an awesome looking club. I love the carbon fiber look on the top. The thing is absolutely enormous to boot! I haven’t tried to hit this thing, as I’m afraid of what would happen…not necessarily regarding my swing or the ball…but my wallet. The TM Burner moves all the way up to #4 as it has a great combination of great looks, amazing performance and great pricing!
Nickent 4DX Hybrid #3 - Nickent 4DX Hybrids
The 3DX being one of the most widely played hybrids on various tours, Nickent has recently updated this club to the 4DX generation. I haven’t seen one in person, but if the 3DX is any indication, this should be an amazing club. Why have a hybrid so high? Well, I really dislike my current hybrid..
Eidolon Wedges #2 - Eidolon Wedges
Chances are you haven’t heard of Eidolon Golf, but if you haven’t, I am sure you will soon…oh wait, you just did! CNC Milled Face, Maxed out Groove Depth, the ultimate in spin and V-Sole Technology all equal….mmmmmm…..wedgetastic. To top it off, the CEO of Eidolon, Terry Koehler (aka The Wedge Guy) authors a great new blog with his take on the industry. I cannot wait to get my hands on one of these wedges.
Callaway FT-5 Driver #1 - Callaway FT-5

Built for pure ball-speed, sticking to the traditional driver shape, and absolutely destroying golf balls…the Callaway FT-5 Driver grabs hold of the Number 1 spot in my list of Top Lustworthy Golf Toys. Coming in around $500, I certainly will not be picking one up anytime soon, but that doesn’t change the fact that I would absolutely love to be able to smash one of these bad boys off the tee.

Did I miss anything? Is there some piece of golf equipment you feel should have been on this list that didn’t make it? Drop a comment and let me know! Are you in a position to send me one of these clubs for review? If so I’d LOVE to hear from you too! :)
