Tommy Gainey @ Wachovia Championship Scorecard
Looks like Tommy ‘Two Gloves’ Gainey (of TGC Big Break Fame) qualified to play in the Wachovia Championship this week. Good luck to him. Will be tough to make the cut with the ’stacked’ field, but he’s T77 at the moment (+2 after 15). Given the leader (Padraig, my Fantasy Golf Starter this week..woohoo) is at -6 at the moment, Tommy sure will have his work cutout for him tomorrow.
I got in a little golf over at Bamm Hollow yesterday. Hit a lot of fairways with the driver and 3 iron off the tee. But had a heck of a time with the short irons again. I’m just all sorts of messed up with that part of my game at the moment. The sad part is, I really felt like it had been a big strength, now I’m so not confident standing over the ball at the 150 marker. I haven’t been to the driving range in quite a while, and haven’t been playing much at all, so, I’m thinking some time hitting the short irons should help sort things out…work on regaining that confidence.
I played with my father, and he has these v-steel fairway woods, 3, 5 and 7. I don’t think I’ve ever hit a 7 wood, so I gave it a whirl a couple times. There is a rather short par 5 on the red course at Bamm Hollow which is quite reachable. But with my iron woes off the fairway, I gave the 7 wood a shot. Low and behold, beautiful hit, that ended up just left of the green in two. Perhaps I’ve replaced my ‘fear’ of fairway woods with a ‘fear’ of hitting my irons from the fairway. That would not be a good thing…

He was able to play in the Wachovia because of an exception from the Tar Heel Tour.

Can you tell me what the outcome was of Tommy Gainey’s
Score at the Nationwide tour. I can find no results.
I believe it was held at the Cliff’s.
Did he make the qualifier to continue?

Yeah, he ended up T30, shot a 77 on sunday, unfortunately.

He had applied for an exemption at this week’s nationwide tour event, but was denied. I’m sure we’ll see him in another event or two before his Big Break appearance at the Cox Classic.
