This news story has spread rapidly all over the Internet. There is a 20+ page thread on this on BombSquadGolf, numerous blog posts, and articles. Looks like Nike made a boo-boo:
Nike Golf will offer replacements of its new, square-shaped Nike Sumo2 driver, due to what it calls an “unauthorized manufacturing variance.” Individual golfers will be able to return their current Sumo2 driver for a new, conforming model starting March 26.
There is also a little video explaining this on the Nike website. If you own one of these drivers, or are just interested, be sure to check it out.
The word on the ’street’ is that another golf manufacturer purchased a bunch of these at a local retail shop, tested them out, then notified the USGA of the situation…very interesting.
Perhaps it is time to snag a non-conforming Sumo2 off ebay? I’m just kidding, but it is amusing that people already are listing them like that. Though, I would assume plenty of these ‘normal’ sumos are non-conforming as well.
