Looks like we will be able to watch some of the Masters at work..err..I mean, while we’re at home, on our computers.
** Update **
CBS will put an extra hour per day of coverage of the Masters golf tournament online to drive Web traffic to CBSSportsLine.com.
The live streaming coverage will start one hour before television coverage begins on USA Network on April 5 and 6, and on CBS on April 7 and 8.
The new “Masters Extra” programming builds on the “Amen Corner Live” feature at CBS SportsLine, which will show replays of the golfers navigating the legendary 11th, 12th and 13th holes at Augusta National Golf Club. In 2006, CBS SportsLine served 3.4 million video streams from Amen Corner.
“Masters Extra” will be produced by CBS Sports and use the network’s regular lineup of announcers, who will cover the entire field as they play the earlier holes on the course.
The live Amen Corner and Driving range coverage they had last year was pretty cool, it’s nice to see CBS building upon that. Perhaps someday they’ll have continuous coverage all day while any players are playing. I’m sure they could get a fair sized audience, willing to pay for the service, if they offered this, in a resolution comparable to that of the TV shows on iTunes.
If watching the Masters online isn’t your cup of tea, you can always actually buy yourself a Masters Badge and watch it in person! They seem to range from about $235 for practice round tickets, to a whopping $5750 for an all inclusive, see everything, do everything, you get to polish Tiger Woods’ shoes (ok, that was a joke) pass.
