OobGolf is a somewhat new site that one can use to track your entire golf game online and on the road. Similar to the golf stats suite at The Golf Space, you can enter a round hole by hole, tracking # of putts, fairways hit, bunkers, penalty strokes and greens in regulation.
My first question was, What the heck does oobgolf mean anyway?
I found the answer in the oob forums: Oob (think Hole -> ball -> Club )
After you have entered a few rounds, the site will present you with a great snapshot view of the current state of your game via the My Game feature. Here you will find statistics like:
The site offers a few course related tools. One can browse through area courses by zip code, or search for courses by name. If you are searching a zip code, it will bring up a google maps pane with little flags highlighting all of the near by golf courses. If you cannot find your home course, no worries, you can add it yourself! Just enter all the course details, address, website, and yardages for all the holes, and you’re all set! The great thing is, it even links this course to your name, so you get a little credit for helping out with the site.
Here’s is an example: Warrenbrook
Entering your scores online could not be any easier. Using a simple table layout, you go along the 18 holes entering your score, the club you used off the tee, number of putts, if you got in trouble or had any penalty shots. If you do this after a round, I’m sure it wouldn’t take more than a few minutes to enter. Later on in this review, you’ll read about another way to enter your scores. Here are some screen shots of the process:
Once you’re done, you can look at your recorded score via the site, or even hand out a URL directly linking to your score! Here’s one for a round I input from last season at Warrenbrook:
One of the coolest features of the site is a mobile website that you can access via your web enabled cellphone or pda. From this site you can enter scores while you are on the course or review previous rounds. Here are a few screenshots:

oobGolf offers a bunch of neat Community tools for interacting with other golfers and the authors of the site:
All of these features will serve well in fostering a great golf community. I love the competitive aspects of the site. They rank members of the site by your handicap as well as how you have helped the site improve, by adding/editing course details.
Oobgolf provides a couple tools which you can use on your own blog, myspace, or personal website:
This little flash chart can be embedded on your site, giving users of your site a nice graphical view of your current game state. Pretty neat stuff!
The guys at oobgolf were quick to react when I had asked if I could get an XML feed of my recent scores. They put together a quick little feed the same night! So, I made up a Wordpress Plugin to exploit this feed and publish those scores on your own blog. If you run your own blog, and would like to post the scores you have entered via oobgolf on your site, this is the easiest way to do it! I had been keeping track of my scores my own in a simple HTML page. This is soooo much easier! Drop me a line if you’d like a copy of the plugin.
I cannot wait for spring and the chance to really put this tool to the test. With the mobile tool, keeping my scores hole by hole should be a breeze. Hopefully I can use this to identify weaknesses in my game, finding things to work on to improve my game! Great work guys! Be sure to Sign Up at OobGolf today!
